About the Artist

My work is an exploration of material, form, and texture. I've always been interested in making work that is physically fun or repetitive in techniques, and being able to work with my hands and body. Process is the most important aspect of anything I make, and I strive to make that apparent in finished pieces. Often, my work incorporates sewing and fabric manipulation techniques. Regardless of medium I find myself drawn to the concept of "stitching," bringing pieces together in little steady increments. I work mainly in metal and fabric, both as a metalsmith and as a sculptor. In metal, I'm interested in forming and texturing techniques such as chasing and repousse, die-forming, and metal-forming. I've experimented in blacksmithing as well, and hope to pursue it more vigorously in the coming years.

Natural history informs my work in all mediums, inspiring the exploration of organic forms and bodies. I explore relations between the organic and the fabricated - mimicking, distorting, re-contextualizing, and drawing inspiration from natural life. I've explored identity in the human figure, beauty in flora and fauna, aesthetic in the uncanny, and drawing connections between the physical aspect of working to create a corporeal product.

Up until this point, my work in the two disciplines has been divided by a clear line, but as I move forward I hope to bridge that division, which has often been defined by the scale at which I'm working.
